Dr Natalie Flynn – Clinical Psychologist

Natalie is a registered clinical psychologist. She has worked with people with emotional health concerns for 19 years and completed her doctorate in clinical psychology in 2004. She has experience in diagnosis, assessment and therapy with a wide range of issues including: depression; stress; all types of anxiety such as generalized, PTSD and OCD; sleep difficulties, body image/eating concerns; low self-esteem; anger; guilt; substance use; bipolar disorder, and psychosis. Natalie also has a special interest in transition to parenthood, being herself a mother of three. She currently divides her time between private practice and working in the public system.
Natalie draws on a number of therapies including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Narrative Therapy, Mindfulness and Motivational Interviewing skills. Having a strong background in group work she has facilitated depression, postnatal depression, sleep, distress tolerance, substance use and bipolar groups.
Alongside a strong interest in the practical application of therapies, Natalie has a longstanding interest in research. She was awarded a Bright Future Top Achiever Doctoral Scholarship in 2001 to complete her research in neuropsychology (understanding how the brain relates to behaviour). She also held a position as research psychologist for the Auckland Eating Disorders team. Natalie is associated with the Parent-Infant Research Institute (Melbourne Australia).
The philosophy underpinning all of her work with clients is: “given the right circumstances, anyone can experience emotional difficulties, so treat compassionately, non-judgmentally and accountably”.
